Hello dear readers! I haven’t written anything for almost two months, and I hope you have missed me as much as I have you. First of all, I am proud to say my Mom did it! She took on a daunting task of a master’s-level course and passed her nutrition certification exam the first time. Most require three attempts, but not my Mom! She studied her heart out, and it paid off. Bravo!
This means we will be back to blogging again. However, I am in decline. Just the last six months, I’ve lost quite a few steps. That leads me to my second point: I won’t be blogging on a regular basis. I’m pretty sure you don’t need to read about how I splatted on the tile floor…again. Mom and Dad are committed to giving me the best quality of life as long as possible, and we’ll still take on adventures…they will be different and low key.
This leads me to thirdly: a bike ride to the Bullfrog Pond. If you recall, this is in the Reach Area 11 off of Tatum Boulevard, just past the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM). The small parking lot is dirt and does not have a human restroom. It is free, and bicycles are allowed. Because I can’t go very far, Dad broke out The Kuma Kart!
We went Mother’s Day weekend as Mom wanted to do something with me. Awww. They haven’t been on
bicycles in a while, but Dad inflated the tires and loaded them up. Off we went! If you live on the north end of town, you heard about the I-17 closure debacle over Mother’s Day weekend. Holy Smokes a lot of people were pouring into our area. Dad made the mistake of heading toward the 4 Sons Mart off Carefree Highway and I-17. That was a disastrous, time-consuming error that forced us, like many, to find alternative routes to get the heck out of there! We heard horror stories of folks being trapped on the freeway for hours. Eeesh. They better figure this out!
Anyway, we arrived via the long way. I should be thrilled to get a free ride in the Kuma Kart, but I wasn’t too sure about it. It has a sunroof and windows with vents. Yet, I wiggled and whined. Dad pulled me anyway, and Mom followed.
They are both out of practice, and Mom forgot about her shoelaces. Shortly after we started the bike ride, her laces got caught in the chain. She said, “Uh oh,” and fell. Bam, on the ground she went, hitting her right hip. Gravel isn’t very forgiving. She was picking pebbles out of her skin for hours. She’s a trooper, though. Back on the bike she got with her shoelaces tucked in. The path to the Bullfrog is only 1 ½ miles. Walking takes longer, but on bikes, we arrived in a flash!
We parked the bikes, and I immediately smelled the pond. It was full! I couldn’t hear them, but Dad said the bullfrogs were singing. We walked around, took pictures, and enjoyed the shade. The path to the pond is hot and sunny, so the big trees are a true oasis in the desert.
Should you want to have a picnic, one table is available, first come. Back in kart I went, and we took off. I really got worked up on the way back. As soon as Mom got me out, I had to poop! I’ve officially reached the age where I can’t hold it in very long, and I definitely don’t trust farts anymore.
We headed over to In-and-Out Burger at Desert Ridge for lunch and ate outside. Is it me or has our
spring been a long one? I know it is starting to heat up, but gee whiz…it is almost June! We hope you had a safe and healthy Memorial Day!
My mom, Lorraine Bossé-Smith, is kind enough to help me share my Great Adventures, big and small. My mom is a motivational speaker, corporate trainer, executive recruiter, business consultant, coach, fitness expert, and author of nine published books. More importantly, she’s the best doggy mom ever!

Get outside! You never know what you’ll discover, and our paths just might cross. Happy tails!

Oh, Kuma, though your energy level has ‘got up and went,’ you keep trekking. We humans may think dogs love their traveling trailer, but it probably doesn’t take the bumps very well; no wonder you wiggled and whined. As an adventurous family, you learn to take the bad along with the good; thinking of the shoelaces incident (can’t laugh but want to) and the long wait at Carefree and Highway 17. Lunch sounds scrumptious; In ‘n Out was my favorite burger place, hands down!! Your life sounds a bit like my brother’s, whose 90th birthday we celebrated in April. Sadly, Jim had been having bad health issues for over a year and went on a steep decline after his big party. He was a Marine through and through, so it wasn’t surprising he passed away on Memorial Day weekend, this past Sunday. We all knew his day was coming; he was just surprised he lived to be that old. We’ll now have another life celebration for Jim! Till next time..
