I know I am going against the trendy culture here, but someone has to speak the truth about the ridiculousness of diversity and inclusion initiatives. It is truly a solution in search of a problem. Let me explain my take on this…
When we focus on dividing us up into classes, segments, races and genders, we, in essence, are doing exactly the opposite of the term “inclusion” and are doing nothing for real diversity. The online dictionary states that inclusion is “the action or state of including or of being included within a group or structure.” When we separate everyone out into their own groups, we have excluded others. It’s really insane when you think about it.
If we want unity and cohesive teams, then we shouldn’t go about dividing everyone up. We should, instead, treat everyone (regardless of race, gender, or anything else) with dignity and respect. The bottom line: apply the Golden Rule.
How much frustration and money could be saved if we just were decent to everyone. Unfortunately, the push to create inclusion and diversity programs divides company’s resources, time, money and people. It does not drive business results.
When we are seeing huge corporations like Coca Cola offer trainings to their employees on how to be less white, we have truly lost sight of what is important. If US companies and HR departments continue down this path, we will not only be the laughing stock of the world (already happening) but we will be left in the dust. We will cease to be a superpower.
Make no mistake – there are political figures who are striving to destroy the America I grew up in. They want people held down, submissive and dependent upon the government (aka Communism). Why? They are addicted to power and control. When they create “have’s” (them) and “have nots” (the rest of us), they will be rich, and we will be peasants. Making people feel like they don’t matter and dividing us up is a part of their strategic plan.
I’m appalled and disappointed beyond words to see corporations jumping on the band wagon. I’m actually outraged, and you should be, too. I might have some respect for corporations if they actually were authentic, but out of one side of their mouth they are agreeing with the cancel culture, but out of the other side, they are quietly and secretively against it. They just want to play the social media game. Again, what a horrible waste of time, money and resources. We must stop the games and focus on the core principles of business. We are on a path that will lead to destruction. If we aren’t careful, we will reach a point of no return. I pray we can get back to conducting business, applying the Golden Rule and moving forward.
