I am a person who wants to do what I have planned, but as you know, life doesn’t always cooperate. Things happen and circumstances change and our plans go out the window. How you handle it will determine whether you become extremely frustrated or if you move forward…just differently than expected with your Plan B.
Take exercise classes. They are conducted at a scheduled time, and if you arrive late and can’t participate, you could get angry or go to your Plan B. What Plan B, you ask? Well, wise people always have a Plan B in their pocket! Obviously, you can avoid the issue by showing up earlier, but sometimes things out of our control occur, and we just need to roll with it.
Your Plan B in this case could be walking the treadmill or doing the stationary bike. I know you really wanted to take that class, but the ultimate goal is to get exercise, right? Plan B works in a pinch and keeps you moving forward.
Anyone who organizes big events, parties or trade shows knows how paramount a Plan B is for success. Storms roll in, roads get closed, and an array of things can go seriously wrong incredibly fast. A Plan B saves the day!
A Plan B requires you to think of the possible road blocks and potholes in the roads ahead. It’s isn’t negative thinking but rather preventative action. The more you identify possible issues, the more prepared and equipped to overcome them you can be. Again, sometimes we just can’t foresee something like the COVID-19 shutdown, but our Plan B mindset helps us to quickly adapt and pivot accordingly.
From important meetings to major projects, you better have a Plan B. If you don’t, someone else will come up with one, and they will be the hero. In your personal life, be sure you have options should your plans derail.
