If you want great leadership, you must be investing in them both personally and professionally. Work goes home, and home comes to work. This simply truth has been ignored for way too long, and I am hopeful we are finally learning the importance of work/life balance!
I have been an advocate for work/life balance since I burned out myself back in 1997. I was working 80-hours a week and in an abusive relationship. I escaped my miserable marriage by working way too many hours, and no one stopped me. In fact, when I was on the brink of a meltdown and told my supervisor I would need to cut back to 60 hours a week, I was scolded. I learned an important lesson: we train people on how to treat us! We are just a cog in the wheel. We are replaceable, and if we don’t take care of ourselves, no one else will.
I began the process of creating a more-balanced life for myself at the end of my abusive marriage. I basically had to learn how to manage stress in a healthier manner. What I have learned through the years of teaching stress and life management to countless people is I wasn’t alone. Most of us were not taught how to cope. We didn’t have the tools and often fell into traps like drugs, alcohol, overeating, excessive exercise, work-a-holic mode, smoking, etc.
The good news is we can take charge of our life at any time. Small adjustments can make a big difference. Corporately, I offer my FIT Leader training with a Foundation in Human Behavior, Insights into Leadership Development, and Training on how to succeed without sacrificing one’s health.
Individually or collectively, I can help your leaders be fit to lead and succeed! The best part is when your leaders are healthy, they become high performers and often encourage, motivate, and inspire others to do the same. Being a rock star is contagious…and so is being unproductive. The choice is really yours. Do you want a team who excels or drowns?
Should you want to maximize your greatest investment (aka your people), give me a call! We can discuss a variety of ways to approach it like coaching and training. You may want to start with YOU! If that is the case, I encourage you to get a copy of I Want My Life Back where you will look at ALL areas of your life. In order to have more balance, we must be better time managers, and we need to understand our energy is a limited resource. Figure out the best ways to spend it for you! A better way exists.
