If you follow me, you know I am always up for an adventure, but when it comes to motorcycling, not so much. I know some Shiba Inu dogs go on the bike with their human but not me. I’m a super-sized Shiba, so I doubt I would fit anyway.
On Saturday, mom and dad got their helmets and jackets out. Dad cleaned up the Honda Goldwing, and off they went to Bartlett Lake. They said they would take pictures for me.
Bartlett Lake is an easy 45-minute ride from north Phoenix. To get there, you get on the Carefree Highway heading east and take a right on E Cave Creek Road until you come to the brown sign for Bartlett Lake or Bartlett Dam Rd/Service Rd 205. Bartlett Lake is the second largest lake in Arizona, coming in at 2 miles long with 2,800-acre feet of water surface. It is bigger than Canyon Lake and Saguaro Lake combined, to give you a reference.
The ride meanders through the northern Scottsdale and the open desert. Someday, all these open spaces will be built up with homes, apartments, and shopping centers. Enjoy our beautiful desert while you can!
Mom was hoping to see some wildflowers, but they just aren’t coming this year. There is some yellow but not much else. Still, she said the ride was pleasant. The temperatures were perfect and the sky blue.
They arrived around noon and decided to get a bite to eat at The Cove restaurant at the marina. A huge motorcycle group was just finishing up, so there were plenty of seats. They have a covered area with shade and some picnic tables out in the sun…all with a spectacular view of the lake.
They placed their order, and as they waited, they noticed how low the water level was in the lake. If you were boating, you would need to be very careful of rocks, sand and bushes popping up that are normally covered by water.
The Cove is dog-friendly, and I missed it! Sigh. Apparently, I didn’t miss much, though. Mom’s first choice wasn’t available then she ordered a chicken salad without black pepper and covered it in black pepper. They tried to tell her there wasn’t any, but it was awful. After waiting a very long time, she got a lame version of what she ordered. All in all, it was too pricey for what you got. There are plenty of other spots to get a lake view.
If you wanted to do your own picnic, Rattlesnake Cove has covered picnic tables. You would need to pay a daily use fee of $6 per vehicle. There are human restrooms.
Mom and dad got a little chilly as the wind kicked up. What is it with wind this year? I’m sick of it! It hurts my ears and blows stuff in my nose. Aaahchoo! Anyway, they geared up and headed back home.
While they were out, I enjoyed a nice nap. As much as I love adventures, I can’t miss my humans if they never leave. Ha! So, there you have it from a dog who hasn’t been on a motorcycle to Bartlett Lake. Any questions?
