We are one week out, folks! Are you ready for Christmas? We are, and I can’t wait! I’ve been a very good boy this year. No coal in my stocking.
The weather hasn’t felt much like December, though, and we are wondering if we will be able to do our annual Christmas Even snow shoeing adventure. We’ll see what the next storm brings. In the meantime, we did some local Christmas outings this past weekend.
First, we drove to Cave Creek and walked around their Frontier Land. They have it decked out, and I’m sure it is even cooler at night with all the lights. This is a neat place to take out-of-town guests as it represents the wild west aspect of Arizona. All the shops are independently owned, and you’ll find some unique items should you be in need of some last-minute gifts.
Right next door was a holiday bazaar with a mix of booths. Mom finished her shopping in November, so we just perused. I met a very big dog. I thought he was a mini horse at first…ha! Anyway, he looked intimidating but was quite sweet and friendly. We are being careful not to spend too much time around other dogs with that weird virus going around. Thankfully, most dogs seem to fair okay and get over it. I just don’t want to be sick for Christmas!
Dad popped into the leather store by the rodeo corral, but he didn’t stay long. First, they didn’t have anything that fit him and second, they are outrageously expensive! Onward we continued to Carefree.
Carefree is just east of Cave Creek, and we have been to their Christmas at night. Today, we just walked the outside gardens. It isn’t very big, but it is pretty. They have a water feature, doggy area, and kid’s play area. On the stage, some musicians were playing, although I didn’t hear them. Mom has started using some sign language for me. She has used hand signals since I was puppy, so I have no excuse for not sitting or staying…other than I am a Shiba Inu and decided whether I will obey or not. Woof!
Mom popped into the second-hand store right by the park and said it was huge. Cave Creek and Carefree have several consignment stores, and you can find some gems at excellent prices. Always worth checking.
Stretching my legs outside in the fresh air felt good. I always enjoy sniffing new places. FYI, Cave Creek is always busier with motorcycles and tourists while Carefree is a bit calmer and quieter. Just different vibes.
I can’t promise I’ll get a blog out next week with the holiday. Just in case, Merry Christmas!
