I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I was grateful not only for pieces of turkey but that I was feeling better. My tummy settled down, and I’m back on the trail! This was Mowgli’s first Thanksgiving with us, so mom gave him a little bit of turkey gizzards. He gobbled it up, and we may have created a monster.
Our family tradition is to hike the morning of Thanksgiving to pre-burn that bird, and we did a short hike at 7th Street/Sidewinder Trail, which I’ve blogged on before. We wanted to start off slow to ease my ankle into rocky terrain. I did okay.
The next day we found yet another park we had not yet visited in Cave Creek called Desert Willows Park. You can Google up directions for 4040 E Desert Willow Pkwy W, Cave Creek, AZ 85331, but we went East on Carefree Highway to Cave Creek Road and headed North until we saw Desert Willow. It has a good-sized parking lot with human restrooms. No cost and dogs are most welcome on leash.
Right near the entrance are a few picnic tables and a BBQ grill. They are nestled in the trees and would make a lovely picnic spot. Mom had a full day of turning our house into a Christmas wonderland, so we went just for the walk.
The park has a children’s play area and tons of grass for soccer and other sports. We started walking on a paved path, but it is short lived. We aren’t sure why they didn’t put the path around the entire park, but we were fine walking in the grass. Unlike our local Tramonto park, this had more trees and shade. It is, however, much smaller than my all-time favorite park in Anthem.
The morning temps have been chilly but the sun has been warm. I just love this time of year! We were glad it wasn’t windy, and I sniffed my way around the park. Between the short hike and walk around this park, it was a good test for my ankle.
I was feeling so fantastic that I ran up the stairs and up and down our hall. I was running really fast and loving every minute of it, but later I paid for it. My ankle was bothering me again. Mom gave me a massage and off to bed I went. Thankfully, I woke up feeling fine. I think we will just have to keep an eye on it and see how I do. Telling me to go easy isn’t easy! I’m an adventurer, and it is hard to keep me down.
I have appreciated all your warm wishes to get well! Thank you for caring and sending good thoughts, especially to mom. She gets stressed when I hurt. I try to be tough for her, but we are two peas in a pod. I can’t hide anything from her, and I am one lucky dog!
Our house is all decked out, and now we participate in the season. We will see friends and go on Christmas adventures. I hope you enjoy this special time of year. Until next time my dear readers.
