This is Superbowl week, and I won’t be watching it. I know, however, millions of fans will be glued to the television come Sunday supporting and celebrating “their” team. I have always found it interesting how people will proudly display their t-shirts and ball caps of their team yet won’t share about their faith. We have our priorities mixed up.
My daily devotional by Candace Cameron Bure yesterday was titled “Game On,” and she shares how as Christians, we are on the team. Whether we are star players or sitting on the bench, we are still players and must do our part. At the basic core, we should be telling others of the hope and everlasting life found in Jesus Christ our savior. In essence, be proud of our team!
Football fans don’t hold back. They are loyal and verbal about the team they love. Why is it that we don’t share that side of ourselves with others? Where is our enthusiasm and team spirit? Perhaps we feel like network marketers and try to hide the fact that we are selling something because let’s be brutally honest, we are! We are selling Heaven versus hell.
The best network marketers don’t hide what they are selling. They come right out and tell you the “good news” about their products and services. Why? Because they believe in it. Those network marketers who don’t make it usually fail because they didn’t really believe in what they were selling and tried to hide it when approaching others. Classic case: “I have an international business opportunity I want to discuss with you.” After several phone calls of postering and propaganda, they try to sell you over-priced laundry detergent.
I know we are all different personalities and being forward can be more challenging to some. Yet I see plenty of introverts sporting their team jersey and shouting at the top of their lungs come Superbowl Sunday. It is a matter of what you believe in and how much value you place upon it.
I have never wanted to support football and the outrageous salaries that go with it. I don’t care to see grown men cry when a bad call is made. No, I rather see a stadium packed with believers, worshiping together, praising God, and celebrating the real good news.
Last Friday, 1.6 million of us went to the theaters to see The Chosen, season three finale. That money will go toward funding season four. Don’t worry if you missed it as you can stream it for free via the Angel Studios app. Besides being an amazing production, they are offering t-shirts, sweatshirts, and all sorts of other ancillary products sporting our team.
I am not saying you should give up football, although I can think of much better things you could do with that time, money, and energy. I am, however, saying GAME ON! If you consider yourself part of the Jesus team, then start acting like it. Take the same zest and zeal you have for your favorite football team and share your faith with a world who desperately needs it.
I have read the Bible countless times, but as I dive into the Word this year, I am clearly and distinctly reading the urgency of the commands to spread the word of the One who comes to save us all. If that isn’t worth cheering on, I don’t know what is. Go Jesus!
If you have accepted my challenge but don’t know where to start is sharing your faith with others, let’s chat! We can run an assessment on you and then find ways that fit your God-given personality. Every player on the team is vital.

Go, girl!!! Thanks for the flamboyant reminder!! I just re-read a newsletter from Gary Wilkerson of World Challenge – dated 2017. He was in Jordan and speaking to pastors. God convicted him of speaking only about Jesus to those who already do. Gary explained to God, “I’m not the bold, in-your-face type. I’m an introvert…” God surprised him with a Baptism of Love. He found himself talking to strangers and asking if they wanted him to pray for them. He said, “..something has changed: me. I’ve seen firsthand that reaching out to people in love isn’t duty–it’s exciting, adventurous and fun … lives are being changed because they experience the amazing love behind his supernatural works.” Lord, give me a Baptism of Love.
