From a very young age, music has moved me and touched my spirit. I’ve been blessed to live in some scenic states, and when I found myself in one that wasn’t, I realized how God’s paintbrush inspired me. Yes, church is a great way to worship and connect with other believers, but God is everywhere. We don’t have to enter a church building to find Him.
I think we can get so busy in our chaotic lives and wrapped up in the drama of the world that we put God in the Sunday box. Meaning, except for Sunday, we really aren’t in a relationship with him. We forget to look up and around us to see God in our every-day lives. When we get caught up in the busyness of the day, we can start to feel like we are adrift. Add any personal or medical struggles, frustrations or disappointments, and God feels far away.
If you grew up in the church like me and worked in the Christian industry, you can be misled to believe that we can only be close to God when we are doing Christian things, listening to Christian music and reading Christian books. If we don’t have those things, we could lose sight of God. Through time, I found this not to be true. Sure, those things are wonderful ways to build up our spiritual muscles and keep our minds focused, but they aren’t the only ways we can be close to God. He has created all things, after all.
Of course, He never goes anywhere, and that gives me great comfort. He literally is right here with us, and all we need to do is open our eyes and listen with our hearts. He is in a sunrise reminding us that today is a brand-new day full of hope and possibility. He is in a sunset sending us peace that we did the best we could for the day.
God is in the breeze that brings about change, and He gives nourishment in the rain. He’s the bird that sings a good-morning song to you, and He is in the ocean wave cleansing us and freeing us from what weighs us down. He is in the giggles of little children, bringing out our inner child so that we may draw nearer to Him like a father. He is everywhere.
I hear Him in secular songs because I listen beyond the lyrics to the talent He has bestowed upon someone. Even some lyrics speak to me because I feel the angst and torment of someone who is disconnected from God and feel the weight of that broken relationship.
I find Him in movies that share a lesson or simply make me laugh. He’s in every smile upon every face because He made us all! As a writer, He is in the words I type and share. He is my creative engine, and I am just the vessel.
If the pressures of the world are blocking you from seeing God, it is the work of the devil. He wants you to feel trapped, alone, afraid, and in a dark place. Each day provides us the chance to see God somewhere new if we will just slow down and take the time. Where do you see God? In what unique places does He show up for you? Blessed are those who have eyes that see!
Sometimes we need a little inspirational message to help us reflect. My book, A Healthier Happier You!, offers quotes, scripture and ways to create more balance and harmony in your life. It might just be the ticket to helping you see God in all things.
