Happy New Year! And like that, 2020 is now in the rear view mirror. I think most of us are glad to put it behind us, but I hope we aren’t throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Every year will have its challenges, but every year will also have its positives. Granted, 2020 threw us some incredible curve balls with COVID-19, but I believe we learned a lot. As you say good bye to 2020, take time to reflect and ask yourselves a few questions:
- What did you accomplish last year?
- What surprised you – something unexpected (positive or negative)?
- What one thing are you most proud of from 2020?
- What lessons did you learn?
- What is something new you did that you never did before?
Here are my answers:
- I published book number nine. It seems like an eternity ago, but Defy Your Diagnosis: Overcome Any Obstacle with the FIT Life Formula released in April of 2020. Some thought it was the worst time to launch my book, but I new its message was needed more than ever…and still is.
- I have been shocked at how the media has handled our pandemic with lies, deceit, and fearmongering, which has led to dividing our country.
- I am proud of my consistency in 2020. I didn’t miss a week blogging and vlogging, adding valuable content to hopefully inspire, encourage and motivate people to be better versions of themselves.
- I have learned the power of fear and how all-consuming it can be…paralyzing many. This has made me extremely grateful for my faith for we cannot be in fear when we are in faith!
- Not as much new as getting back to a part of myself that I closed off years ago, but I started painting again as a creative outlet through the “two-week” shut down, which has been on/off since March of 2020. I have enjoyed expressing myself into something positive.
Now, as you look toward 2021, have you set some goals? I make goals in the following categories: Speaking/Consulting/Coaching business, Fitness/Wellness coaching & teaching, Product Development, Writing, Financial (personal & business), Health, Relationships (marriage, family & friends) and Travel. Some of these have sub-categories like marketing & PR for my business, but these buckets give you a start. What matters to you? If you don’t write out what you want to achieve and by when, your chances of accomplishing it are slim.
I heard a psychiatrist on TV say “Don’t challenge yourself with your goals because you will only be disappointed.” Good grief! Someone please fire them! You need to challenge yourself, stretch and grow! Being stagnant leads to death. You do need to make your goals SMART: specific, measurable, actionable, realistic and timed. Meaning, if you decide you are going to be an astronaut but have no education or training and are 60 years old, that probably isn’t realistic. Yet, countless examples of people saying “it is never too late” to do what they want abound, so think BIG! Don’t limit yourself with small thinking.
Setting goals is the easy part; achieving them is the difficult part. Need help? I can help! As a professional coach, I have tools to help you stay motivated and on track. Give me a call, and we’ll make 2021 one of your best years yet!
