As I shared with you last week, I was in a funk until recently. When satan beats us down, we can easily think “it’s too late for me to…(fill in the blank).” This lie breeds upon itself and can consume us, preventing us from taking even the smallest of steps. I’ve reminded myself, and I’m telling you today: It is NEVER too late!
God’s timing is not ours, and His ways are not our ways. What feels like an eternity to us is just a blink of an eye to Him. The challenge is we do live here on earth, and when we feel as if we are in the valley of despair, it can truly feel like forever. The best way to get out of that rut is to remind yourself of your previous victories and successes. What God has done before, He will do again!
Sometimes looking back is a good thing, especially when we don’t see any future ahead. Our gloom and doom becomes thick, dark clouds, and we can’t see anything in front of us. At these times, looking back can help us remember, recall, and rejoice in what God has done for us and through us in year’s past.
As we begin to rejoice the past, our spirit leaps with joy. “Oh the great things He has done for me!” This joy can slowly penetrate those dark clouds with light, blowing them apart, and eventually casting them aside. The joy of the Lord is our strength.
I thought my life was over at the age of 30 after my divorce to a very abusive man. “That’s it, I thought. I’m done.” I couldn’t see how I could rebuild my life, but God healed my broken pieces from the death of my father many years before. If He could do it then, He could do it again…and He did!
Not only did I marry a wonderful man, I embarked on a journey of writing books, a dream I wouldn’t dare tell a soul back then. Who was I to write? Well, a child of God, that’s who! He had messages for me to share, and now I have nine published books under my belt. A success to remember, and I trust He has more for me to do. That’s where the hope lies…in Him and His wonderful plan for our lives.
The clouds are lifting, and I’m looking through them. I still don’t quite see the path He has for me, but I’m taking small steps every day. I’m recalling victories like overcoming Lyme disease and beating RA, which I couldn’t have done without God’s intervention. I have inspired countless people to improve the quality of their lives on national radio, television shows, and from the stage all because God opened those doors.
What’s next? Read 1Chronicles 4:10, the prayer of Jabez: “’Oh, that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that your hand would be with me, and that you would keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me!’ So God granted him what he requested.”
I’m reminding myself that I may not know the details or the exact path I will take, but I can trust the Map Maker. He knows me and loves me, and He loves you, too! He is still in the business of miracles, but we must not waiver in the wait. And when we do get impatient due to our human condition and worry, we must lean in closer to Jesus. Let Him put His arm around you, comfort you, encourage you, and lift you up.
Let’s say it one more time together: It is NEVER too late! Until our last breath here on earth, God has plans for us. May we be ready and eager to accept them, moving forward to accomplish His good works here until we reunite with Him in Heaven. Amen.
