I’m doing something different with my blog today. I’m going to incorporate as many song titles as I (aka mom) can think of. We’ll keep track, and you let me know what you come up with! Are you ready? I am, I said. Let’s go!
We were on the road again heading north on I-17 to boondock up in Flagstaff. Traffic is always nuts, so we left early enough to beat it. We were having a good day sunshine until our camper trailer wobbled then boom boom boom boom. Wipe out! We were barely 40 minutes from home when the camper trailer tire blew completely at 60 mph. It was crazy! Thankfully, we were already in the right lane, and dad found a safe spot to pull over just shy of the Bloody Basin exit.
As always, dad was prepared and had a spare. He kept the car running so I could stay cool in the AC, and I was grateful. By the grace of God, we were all okay, had drinks, food, and it wasn’t hot, hot hot. Believe me, it could have been much worse.
The cars kept zooming by us as dad walked the line carefully to stay clear. By the time he was done, I-17 was a parking lot, ain’t that a kick in the head? But great balls of fire, we were able to turn around relatively quickly to make our way home. This adventure was a bust, but it is only a day in a life, not a tragedy.
Instead of camping, we drove 2 ½ hours to end up back at home. It was like a time warp, yeah. I was definitely king of the road, but that was yesterday. Today is another day, and we roll on. Life really is a highway, and we never know where it will take us. Even though we took the road to nowhere, I was happy to be home and busted a move along with a big Awoof! I mean, I could focus on the cruel summer or look at what a wonderful world it is. I couldn’t control the unforgettable disappointment, but I could decide how I would respond. Even though I didn’t have the time of my life, I still love my life.
So, until we say hello again, I’ll be right here waiting. Stay just the way you are!
