I knew something was up when mom got her large suitcase out. That one usually means a plane ride, and I can’t go. Dad wasn’t packing, so I was hopeful: guy’s weekend! Apparently, mom was heading to the Central Coast of California, a place I have never been. Long before me and even before my brother, Edmond, my folks lived in Arroyo Grande. They were just married (aww) and lived on a lovely cul-de-sac near the ocean for four years.
Mom went to visit dear friends there and cool off. I’d tell you about our guy’s weekend, but what happens on a guy’s weekend stays there (ha!). Besides, I have zero pictures of our activities because mom is the picture taker. She also helps me craft my blogs, so you will just have to wonder what a man and his dog and cat did over a long weekend while the wife (my mom) was away. Hee hee
Instead, I will tell you about the bird invasion we are experiencing. Wholly smokes! Mom put up a bird feeder in our courtyard in honor of grandma (my dad’s mom), who passed away last fall. Ever since she hung it, swarms of birds have ascended upon us. They are now consuming all the contents of the feeder in one day! We have quail, doves, wrens, pigeons, and even a road runner, whom we have named Ronald.
Mom loves road runners, so she is pretty excited about Ronald. He enjoys the watering hole (our fountain), bird seed, and shade. Unlike the other freeloaders, though, he earns his keep. Road runners kill and eat rattlesnakes and scorpions! As soon as mom told me that, I was a fan of Ronald. Yo Amigo!
Although all the other birds make a mess with the seed, we are happy that Ronald has selected our home to hang out. My brother enjoys watching all the other birds fly around. He makes this funny chatty sound at them. I’m not sure they can hear him, but who am I to bust his bubble? Every once in a while, I will run to the window and watch them flee in fear of the mighty Shiba. Woof. It’s kinda funny.
With our temperatures still high, I have the highest respect for those birds. They seem to enjoy our courtyard and our trees. Glad we can be of service.
Hi! I am Kumaito (Kuma for short), a multi-tan Shiba Inu. My breed is one of the oldest and purest from Japan. I personally was born in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, moved to Friendswood, Texas, and now call Phoenix, Arizona home. I enjoy running or hiking almost every day with my mom, chasing rabbits out of my neighborhood, playing with toys, pestering my brother Edmond, eating, napping … well, I love just about everything and everyone!
My mom, Lorraine Bossé-Smith (Founder of the FIT Leader Formula™) is kind enough to help me share my Great Adventures, big and small. My mom is a motivational speaker, corporate trainer, business consultant, executive coach, behavioral-wellness expert, and author of eight published books. More importantly, she’s the best doggy mom ever!
