Wholly smokes! We had entire day of rain here in Phoenix! So much for the Valley of Sun. It was downright chilly for my birthday. Yes, I have officially turned 13, but I have a lot of adventure left in me. Woof! Mom made me some special meals, and I got some great new toys. Thank you, Dee! Mom and I shared a birthday ice cream cake because her birthday is October 1, which is just around the corner. We are heading to Pagosa Springs, Colorado to celebrate up right. That adventure is to come so stay tuned!
I still need to wrap up Labor Day weekend. Eeesh. We really did squeeze in a ton into that holiday weekend. On our drive home from Marble Canyon, we decided to stop in Flagstaff to stretch our legs. When you have four of them, it is even more important to do so. Just saying.
Since we only visited once before, we opted to head to Buffalo Park. Here’s the address so you can plug it in: 2400 N Gemini Rd, Flagstaff, AZ 86004. Dogs are welcome on leash, and it is free! There is a huge parking lot and human port-o-potties.
This is an awesome park smack dab in the middle of Flagstaff with great mountain views. It is a flat, easy dirt path that circles around a big, open meadow. Perhaps buffalo once roamed here, thus its name. A huge statue of a buffalo greets you at the entrance, and you can go left or right.
The main trail is called Nate Avery, and it is approximately a two-mile loop. There are ways to shorten the hike or lengthen it with cut offs and spin offs. That’s the beauty of it! You can pick length based upon the time allotted.
Lots of other folks were out because it was a beautiful day. Not too hot and not cold. Just right. Awoof! I met all sorts of my kind and greeted them as we proceeded. I don’t realize I am a bit older until I meet a young pup. Was I really that energetic? Mom says, “YES!” I may have lost a step, but I still got it baby.
We didn’t get too far down the trail, and mom had to take pictures of the flowers. They were in full bloom from all the summer rains. Buffalo Park has pine trees and lots of tall grass. I just love walking through grass and smelling what has been there before me. All sorts of critters call this meadow home at night, that I can tell you.
As you continue on, you’ll have a slight incline. The entire time, you have views of the San Francisco Peaks, which I think got some snow today. Crazy! I guess fall really has arrived. Anyway, we stopped quite a bit to chit chat with folks and meet other dogs. It was a very nice, casual walk that anyone could do.
All we did is follow the loop around, and we found ourselves back at the entrance. I was able to do my business (humans – please pick up after your pooch), and mom and dad hit the port-o-potties before we got back on the road. It was a short 2 ½-hour drive from Flagstaff to our home in North Phoenix. Since it was Sunday of a holiday weekend, we didn’t have to contend with much traffic.
I napped all the way, so I was ready to run around with the zoomies as soon as we got home. Life IS good! I appreciate all the birthday wishes and hope we all have many more adventures to come. Stay healthy.
