Mom bought me the DVD of Dr. Doolittle 2020 with Robert Downey, Jr. so I could watch it with her. If you haven’t seen it and love animals, I think you will enjoy it. This isn’t the Dr. Doolittle’s of years gone by, from what I am told. It isn’t a remake but a brand-new reboot. For children, the adult story line might need some explaining as it does involve death and the loss of a loved one. Dr. Doolittle loses his passion and purpose and literally stops participating in life until a young boy unexpectantly makes his way into his heart.
The movie really starts there as they have a mission of saving the Queen, who has been poisoned. Polly the talking parakeet runs the roost but all the different animals have their fair share of stealing scenes. You will recognize quite a few stars by their voices, and the computer-generated animation is top notch.
Dr. Doolittle is full of great adventures, fun one-liners, and a heart-warming message that a group of misfits can fit together perfectly and become a family. Mom said she liked how Dr. Doolittle took the time to learn each animal’s language. As much as humans can understand one another, they often don’t take the extra time to really hear what others are saying.
I thought it was entertaining and recommend it. Make some popcorn and settle down for a positive, fun couple of hours.
