Fridays are one of my most favorite days of the week because it means park day. Park day is the day I get to visit the grass and do my special dance. Woof! In all honesty, every day is a great day because I have an awesome family and life. Sometimes, the days just run together, but I always know when it is Friday: my mom gets water samples from the pool. How does this mean it is park day? Well, read on…
Every Friday, my mom fills these plastic bottles up with water from the spa and pool. We then jump in the car (well, I jump, and she gets in) and head to Leslie’s Pool Supplies up in Anthem. They are located off Anthem Way at: 3655 W. Anthem Way, Suite #A137 Anthem, AZ 85086-0431. Their telephone number is (623) 551-5126. If you know where the Safeway is located, then you can find Leslie’s. I always know we are close because I can smell French fries and burgers from the nearby McDonald’s. What can I say – I have a superb nose…and taste.
When it is hot (when isn’t it here in Phoenix?), my mom brings me into the store. I’m a celebrity there. I’m not bragging just saying everyone knows me and greets me. While mom gets the pool and spa water tested, I say hello to customers and get wonderful pets. It’s a sweet deal. Many are readers of my column in the 85086 Magazine – thank you!
We usually see Heather or Mel at Leslie’s, and they take great care of my mom. They ensure our pool and spa are all balanced. They are super friendly and ensure our pool and spa are balanced correctly. If they aren’t, they show my mom what she needs to do. Their advice works because our pool always look good. I should know because I stare at it every day. I keep waiting for the Loch ness monster to pop up and eat me. Hey, don’t judge me! I don’t like our pool. It’s that simple.
Last Friday, we learned Mel is retiring. He told us how many years he’s been working, but it’s a number far beyond my ability. Suffice it to say that he has earned some time to travel and have some fun! So, we wished him our best and will miss him. After five summers, he finally got my mom’s name spelled right! Ha!
After Leslie’s, we cross the street and head to the Anthem Veteran’s Memorial Park. It’s such a cool park with ponds, birds, ducks, lots of my kind, and GRASS! Oh, how I love the feel of grass on my paws. It is nice and cool and doesn’t poke or bite you like most of the desert. If anyone from the Anthem HOA is reading this, I suggest you change your landscaping service. Ever since you went with a different provider, the park has been overtaken by weeds and ants. Trust me, you do not want a Fire Ant problem! I lived in Texas with those things, and they can take over small countries.
Even though the park is full of weeds and dirt patches, I enjoy my time. I read messages and leave some Pee Mail of my own. I see lots of regulars but always meet someone new, too. With the high humidity, we have taken refuge in the shade of pavilions to cool off. We appreciate those picnic tables!
Park day goes way too fast, but I know I will return come Friday. If you need help with your pool, check Leslie’s out. Perhaps I’ll you see you there, and you can adore me. I’m good with that.
Hi! I am Kumaito (Kuma for short), a multi-tan Shiba Inu. My breed is one of the oldest and purest from Japan. I personally was born in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, moved to Friendswood, Texas, and now call Phoenix, Arizona home. I enjoy running or hiking almost every day with my mom, chasing rabbits out of my neighborhood, playing with toys, pestering my brother Edmond, eating, napping … well, I love just about everything and everyone!
My mom, Lorraine Bossé-Smith (Founder of the FIT Leader Formula™) is kind enough to help me share my Great Adventures, big and small. My mom is a motivational speaker, corporate trainer, business consultant, executive coach, behavioral-wellness expert, and author of eight published books. More importantly, she’s the best doggy mom ever!
