Everywhere we turn, we are asked to download yet another app to make our lives supposedly easier. From doctor’s offices to marts to retail shops, everyone wants a piece of your personal information! Yes, you are trading convenience for privacy. This is the world we live in, and it isn’t the point of my blog…at least today.
No, I wanted to share about a bank commercial I recently saw. Chase Bank is currently running a prominent ad campaign highlighting its physical branches and face-to-face human bankers. Never in my life did I think this would be exceptional, but nowadays, humans are rapidly being replaced. If we aren’t careful, we will eliminate all human connections and wonder why we feel isolated and lonely. I believe historians will look back at the introduction of social media and apps as the beginning of our end.
We are already seeing signs with high rates of depression and suicide. Heck, ChatGPT is promoting the fact that they added a voice to their app, trying to make it feel human. How sad is that? We’ll need an app to have a human relationship?
Technology has advanced so quickly that we haven’t had a chance to take a breath nor have we weighed out the consequences for mankind. We are blindly going forward and accepting it as normal.
I am a fan of human beings, and I continue to advocate for them in the workplace. Meaning, I don’t use self-checkout unless forced to, and I still make phone calls, send cards, and meet face to face. I think businesses that rely too heavily on AI will ultimately shoot themselves in the foot.
If we haven’t reached the tipping point, we are getting close. People are sick of machines and AI prompts that don’t understand exactly what you said nor can they help you. Those businesses that leverage human connection are going to prevail! Yes, we need to harness the power of technology to serve us, but technology is enslaving us, and that is a dangerous place to be! I encourage you—no, I urge you—to maintain human connection and relationships as much as possible. Customer service in our country sucks, so we will need to extend patience to endure the frustration, but if we forgo humans, we may slide down a slippery slope with no return.
As a business, invest in your people! I have great trainings to bring people together, understand each other better, and help communicate and lead more effectively. Give me a call at (970) 314-2029, and we can discuss options.
