My title is a little deceiving. This blog isn’t going to talk about finances but the importance of the messaging we allow into our brains. You see, the reality is that just about all of us live on a fixed income. Meaning, we all have a set amount of money coming in that we must budget. It is the rare exception (million and billionaires) who does not need to worry about their endless source of income. Even those considered wealthy have to ensure the money keeps coming in.
I bring this phrase up as an example of how the association given to certain words and ideas can be quite negative and manipulative. Most I know consider living on a fixed income to mean retirement where every cent must be watched carefully with very little wiggle room to enjoy life. For many, this phrase means “just getting by and surviving.” This isn’t the case, and our attitude toward money is going to help us manage it toward what we want in life or give us a scarcity attitude that will ultimately cause us to lose it.
When we realize everyone has a set amount of income and must budget their money, we remove ourselves from the “poor me” category and place ourselves in the “normal” box. When you do, you free up energy to make the most of life rather than living with a fear-based, poverty mindset.
Marketers has forever used certain words and phrases to get an emotional reaction from consumers. They are in the business of manipulating us into doing what they want: buy their products and services. The best of them can make us feel like they actually care about us when the truth is they want our money.
Worse than advertisers are politicians who deliberately and intentionally use words and phrases designed to oppress us, control us and keep us victims. Don’t believe it? They hire people to write their campaigns with an agenda in mind. How is that not manipulative? They spend millions of dollars trying to sway us, and in come cases, keep us in a poverty mindset because when we are down and out, we live in fear. Those who are afraid are easily controlled and compliant.
Yes, words create our attitude, and our attitude molds our life. It matters! It can be the difference between being a victor or victim. I saw a post on Facebook about how a positive attitude never saved anyone, but prayer can. Apparently, they aren’t familiar with the very first motivational and personal development book ever written: the Bible. It is chock full of how to have a positive attitude toward life.
It isn’t one without the other folks. All the prayer in the world won’t help you if you truly believe in all things negative. If you don’t believe you are worthy of answered prayers, you aren’t. Our negative mindset becomes a wall between us and God’s love.
Negative people don’t see the blessings right in front of them. God may even answer their prayers, but they will be too bitter to accept or acknowledge it. These people are easily manipulated into trusting the wrong people and being manipulated and controlled. I say it again: words matter!
We need to pay attention to the messaging we are receiving. Anymore, most things on the media are not truthful. Oh, it may have some elements of truth, but the lies surrounding it make it void. Having a positive attitude helps us stay full of God’s light, love and protection. As soon as we submit to negative thoughts, we allow fear and darkness in. That’s exactly where many politicians want us. The battle isn’t for our money per say but for our values, morals, beliefs and way of life.
Take the time to filter messages through common sense and faith. Always know who is behind the message and why. And as I have repeatedly said, follow the money!
One way to help you see through the lies is to build up your emotional intelligence, which allows you to discern. I have a great assessment that will measure your level of EQ, and then with coaching, we’ll work on increasing your EQ so you will be a strong victor!
