Not managing our stress can be deadly and it is starving your spirit! If we don’t do something with our stress, it does things to us, and they aren’t good. I’ve known this and have been preaching the stress management message for a long time. However, just recently, I realized yet another reason why we must handle our stress in healthier ways…spiritual starvation.
How can we be full of a bright, positive, and loving spirit if we have no room? Think about it. Stress consumes us. It takes over our mind, and we cannot think of anything else. If we are completely filled with worry, doubt, fear, etc., then we do not have any room for the good. How can God fill us up if we have no place to put His gifts to us?
We must make space for our spirit to renew, expand, and be recharged. We have to clear out the crap and allow the wonderful to come in! One way I do this is with my meditative breathing. As I inhale, I bring in the good. As I exhale, I let go of the bad. In with joy; out with frustration. In with peace; out with fear. The more specific you can be, the better! Just start with the good first and let all the other things go.
Do some cleaning. Get rid of unwanted thoughts, ideas, and beliefs. Stop stressing and release your worries. Then, wait for the blessings to come!
