I wrote a book called Fit Over 50 long before I was that age. Why? Because I desperately wanted to be “fit over 50.” In my family, cancer has taken way too many people too young, and I decided to beat the odds by drastically changing how I lived. It put me on a health quest, and as I learned how to improve the quality of my life, I wanted to share it with others.
I offer wellness coaching, speak on the topic, and I teach fitness classes. My favorite format is my Forever Fit because any age, stage and fitness level can participate. Looking for some at-home workouts? I’ve posted a bunch of Forever Fit classes on my You Tube channel: TotalYou1 or you can type in my full name to find my channel. Subscribe to my channel, and you’ll get notified every time I post a new video.
Anyway, being healthy is more than just exercising and eating right, albeit they are important. Your quality of life will reflect your state of mind. If you feel half your life is over at 50, you’ll focus on what you’ve lost and wander around the “good ol’ days.” On the other hand, if you believe your best chapter of life is ahead of you, you will see growth, adventure, fun and make positive things happen.
Like anything else, a positive mindset requires daily attention. In fact, I’d say it is critical to work on your thoughts often because they are being assaulted repeatedly and from multiple angles (pharmaceutical companies, fast food restaurants, etc.) You see, our system is set up to make more money the sicker we become. If we all stopped eating fast food, got off our meds and lived a life full of vitality, our economy and “healthcare” systems would collapse and go bankrupt.
The system isn’t for you; it is working against you. This doesn’t mean we can’t use the system to help us, but our eyes need to be open…wide open. Once the insurance companies decided what we could and could not do for our own bodies, it was game over. Add to it now that the government wants to determine what is best for our health, and their track record sucks, and we must be our own advocates. How quickly people forget, but I do not. I live every day with issues from Lyme disease because the CDC didn’t acknowledge it, nor did they (still don’t) have accurate tests for diagnosing. The CDC doesn’t have our best interest in mind; they want to line the pockets of the individuals in power.
That was a big bunny trail, but it attests to the significance of you watching what you allow into your mind, heart and spirit. Those of us who know the truth are being attacked, discredited and billed as idiots. All of us need to step away from the mass media and go back to basics…health 101, the power of positive thinking, and stay rooted in our faith.
Fast forward more than 10 years, and I wrote another book entitled, Defy Your Diagnosis: Overcome Any Obstacle with the FIT Life Formula. I never imagined how profoundly the message would be needed in 2020 and beyond. Part of my Fit Life Formula is a mind set and faith that believes you can, and without it, our health will decline.
As you strive to stay fit and healthy, be sure to filter the world’s messages through a screen. It is helpful or harmful? Will it lift you up or drag you down? Will it help you toward optimal health or hold you down in sickness? None of us should be settling or getting by. God gave us amazing bodies that can do incredible things if we support them properly. The best chapter IS yet to come as we strive to be Forever Fit.
