One of my mom and dad’s favorite thing to do after spending the day hiking is to sit down and watch a movie with me and my brother, Edmond. I don’t always like what they select, so I will often head to my bed for a good nap. But this one was all about a dog named Marmaduke, so they had me at dog!
Marmaduke is a movie from 2010 starring Owen Wilson as the voice of Marmaduke, a big Great Dane dog. I’m familiar with the breed as my very first doggy friend was a Great Dane name Jaz. She was old, and I was just a puppy, but we hit it off. She wasn’t much for conversation, but would “woof” at me once to say hi. I was full of energy then and didn’t spend much time chatting at the fence anyway. I had bugs to chase!
So Marmaduke’s family moves from Kansas to California. I know all about moving; it is very stressful. Marmaduke and his kitty brother try to adapt, but Marmaduke doesn’t feel like he fits in. Instead of being true to himself, he fakes it and becomes like the snotty group of pure-bred dogs at the park. Now I have to say something: I am a pure-bred Shiba Inu, and we are doggies, too. Just like humans, I think it depends upon the dog whether they are friendly or not. This particular group was rude, and Marmaduke snubbed his true friend to fit in. Ouch.
Meanwhile, his family is struggling, especially the daddy. Daddy’s have to work hard to provide plenty of dog and human food, but he loses his way as well, forgetting to love his family. The movie has a great message for dogs, cats, adults, and young humans alike: be yourself. It is definitely appropriate for all ages, and it will make you laugh out loud. Marmaduke is one funny dude!
If you are looking for something fun for the entire family, give Marmaduke a try. You can find it On Demand or any other online library cheap. Be sure to have popcorn on hand. Yum!
Hi! I am Kumaito (Kuma for short), a multi-tan Shiba Inu. My breed is one of the oldest and purest from Japan. I personally was born in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, moved to Friendswood, Texas, and now call Phoenix, Arizona home. I enjoy running or hiking almost every day with my mom, chasing rabbits out of my neighborhood, playing with toys, pestering my brother Edmond, eating, napping … well, I love just about everything and everyone!
My mom, Lorraine Bossé-Smith (Founder of the FIT Leader Formula) is kind enough to help me share my reviews of books, movies, restaurants, and other outings. I also love to blog about my great adventures. You can find them at https://www.lorrainebosse-smith.com/category/kuma/ and be sure to follow me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Kumathedog
