I don’t know what you did this past weekend, but we didn’t head North. The temperatures were hot everywhere in state with no place to go to cool off. Ugh. Uncle! Mom and Dad are desperately trying to keep landscaping/plants from dying. Please Mother Nature, we need some rain!
I am grateful for air conditioning, that is for sure! Since we had a low-key weekend, I thought I would share about my brother, Mowgli, turning two. I can hardly believe how fast time is flying. Wasn’t he just a tiny, little kitten? Crazy!
This means I have been without my brother, Edmond, for two years. I still miss the big fellow. He was our gentle giant! Man, did he have an awesome tail and incredible purr. We are grateful for all the years we had with him.
Mowgli is his own cat, and we haven’t had a dull moment since he joined our family! He is notorious for grabbing my leg and chewing on it. Apparently, he enjoys some leg of Shiba. Can I blame him? I have to give him a beat down once in a while to ensure he knows I am the older brother! Woof.
He loves to eat cardboard boxes, and he steals Mom and Dad’s paper off their desks. Just last night, Mom heard the “munch, grunch” and caught Mowgli in the act of eating a note she wrote and left on the table. He runs with the paper in his mouth, and the chase is on. Quite comical…unless it is a bill that hasn’t been logged into Quicken yet. That upsets Dad! Doh.
He enjoys watching birds, and he is quite the bug hunter. He runs around like he is possessed before he captures them in his paw. He then meows for Mom to come and kill it. They make a great team. I just lay there and watch.
Mowgli is a tuna-a-holic! No matter what Mom is doing in the kitchen, he comes running in hopes of getting some tuna. He rubs her leg and acts all sweet. Nope, no tuna today. He did get some for his birthday, though. I may or may not have eaten some of his tuna. I can neither confirm nor deny, and you can’t make me!
Mowgli got a nylon tent as a gift, and he lays in it. He thinks he is hiding, but we know better. We have eyes that see his tail! Oh that tail…it has a mind of its own. When it is flickers to and fro, we run for cover. This means Mowgli is in a mood. Every ankle and toe for themselves!
Mowgli isn’t all sass, though. He has a very sweet side, and he will sit with mom to watch television. This makes Mom smile. Mowgli and Mom start every day off with bowing their heads together and saying a prayer. Mowgli is more charismatic than Mom, and he raises a paw. Go bro!
About a week ago, I had a bad night. My hips were killing me, and I cried out. Mowgli was first on the scene, resting his paw on mine to tell me he was there and everything would be alright. Mom and Dad came to stretch me out and rub it down. After a spell, I settled back down and could sleep again. Of course, Mowgli was up and expected Mom and Dad to play with him…at 4 in the morning. Sorry about that.
If Mowgli isn’t in his stuffed chair in the formal living room (the same chair Edmond used), you can find him often on the guest bed. He has a couple of hiding spots Mom and Dad haven’t figured out yet, and I can’t tell you because then they’d know. His secret is safe with me.
He’s a great little brother, and I try to be the best big brother I can. I’ve taught him the art of quietly begging and giving the sad eyes. Mom is a sucker for that! He has learned to play fetch without actually fetching anything. He just joins me in running back and forth! He’s better at coming when called than I ever was, especially now that my hearing is going. Yes, I think he is a keeper.
We celebrated with cards, gifts, tuna, and a little ice cream. We had to split my pup cup from Dairy Queen. Hey, I love you man, but don’t expect me to do that again! I have my limits. With that, I wish Mowgli a super, duper happy and healthy year ahead!
My mom, Lorraine Bossé-Smith, is kind enough to help me share my Great Adventures, big and small. My mom is a motivational speaker, corporate trainer, executive recruiter, business consultant, coach, fitness expert, and author of nine published books. More importantly, she’s the best doggy mom ever!

What a fun story!!! You’re a very descriptive writer, Kuma. I hope Mowgli has had a fantastic birthday. I love his red tunnel (or whatever you call it); cats love to climb into boxes and things that make them feel special.
You’re so lucky that Mowgli, as well as Mom and Dad help when you’re hurting. I hope that doesn’t happen too often, Kuma. You have a very special family.
