YOUR HEALTH
I have been sharing health tips for over 20 years now. I was blogging and sending newsletters before it was a big thing. Just when I think people know how to live a healthier life, I read a statement on social media of account of chasing down symptoms only to learn he wasn’t doing any cardio, and the doctor told him it was important. I want to scream because I’ve been preaching this message forever. Yet, I also know if you don’t live and breath something, it is easy to forget. Add to that the fact that most doctors are not about the healthy lifestyle but treating the symptoms.
Yes, you must work your heart in order to be healthy. Many ailments, illness, and disease can be prevented from cardiovascular exercise. Prescription drugs exist to address the consequences of poor heart health, but they have adverse side effects. A pill will never restore your heart, but exercise and eating right can.
My mom was a heavy smoker, as was my dad. Between the two of them, five packs a day of cigarettes were consumed. Nasty! My dad paid the ultimate price and died from cancer at the age of 52. Mom struggled to quit but finally realized she would face a similar fate if she didn’t kick the habit. Her exam revealed black lungs, but in a short three years, her lungs were completely clear and healthy. Besides quitting smoking, she started walking briskly and began eating better. It is never too late!
Our bodies are amazing and will respond very favorably to healthy-life habits. We will also feel better. When our heart and lungs are strong, we will have more energy to live life. It takes a commitment to exercise on a regular basis, but it offers you not only quality of life but quantity. It is worth every effort! Getting to a fitness class can be a struggle sometimes, but no one has ever regretting going. Make the time! The holidays are coming, so get a routine going now to prevent adding pounds and problems.
YOUR LIFE
One of my favorite aspects of fall is the changing of the leaves. As the trees begin to drop their summer foliage, vibrant colors of yellows, oranges, and reds burst forth. The process reminds us that change doesn’t have to be ugly. In fact, it can be a beautiful transition into something better, if we only endure and have the patience.
If the tree resisted and held onto its leaves, eventually snow would come and break branches, causing permanent damage to the shape of the tree. Change is a natural part of life, but we can become stuck in how things have been done. The familiar becomes comfortable, and we remain the same. Fear of a painful process paralyzes us.
In nature, saplings become big trees and may not look the same when mature, but they are full of glory and wonder for us to enjoy. We are no different. We start off small and continue to grow and develop physically, but God doesn’t wants us to stop there. He has plans for us, and sometimes, we must take big steps of faith to get where He wants us or to become who He has designed us to be.
As nature boldly lets go of the past, I pray you have the faith and courage to step into something new God is calling you to do. It may not be something huge, but don’t run from it. Lean into it with excitement and see what God can do!
YOUR CAREER
I am seeing more and more information and research about burnout for the younger worker, and as someone who has dedicated my career to work/life balance, I can tell you a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work. As an employer, you can’t mandate a certain method of stress management and expect it to work. We are all different, and the best approach is defining what work/life balance actually looks like for the individual.
In order to do so, we must use assessments to drill down to the unique personality, drivers, and motivators of the person. As a coach, we uncover the specifics of what a balanced life would look like for them, and then we begin discussing tools to help them get there.
I have debriefed thousands of assessments and helped countless people get their lives back. When your employees feel healthy, whole, and balanced, they are more productive at work. Conflict goes down and team cohesiveness goes up. Ultimately, the health of your bottom line is determined by the health of your employees. It’s an invest you won’t regret making. Give me a call today to discuss some strategies and how I can improve the quality of your business.
