As a human behavior consultant, I am all about customizing to fit individuals, whether that is communication, leadership, health, or stress management. One size does not fill all! People should be proud of their uniqueness, and we should all celebrate that we are all made different. However, some people seem to be pushing for sameness. Oh, they may think they are challenging the status quo, but they are really stepping in line and following someone else’s lead.
What do I mean exactly? Well, take a look at social media. If you have a different opinion than someone else, that is no longer acceptable. You are attacked, bullied, and chastised. Just because something is popular doesn’t make it right.
We need to quite trying to put everyone in the same mold. Ruth Graham once said about her marriage to evangelist Billy Graham that if they were both the same, thought the same, and acted the same, there wouldn’t be a need for one of them. In other words, different was good!
Why do people feel they must judge and correct everyone else? Remember, we really are all different personalities. Some are more outgoing, and some are reserved. Neither is right or wrong. Some are direct and goal oriented while others are not. It’s what makes the world go around. If we were all the same, how boring that would be!
One Size Doesn’t Fit All
Businesses need to remember this important fact and shouldn’t concentrate on just one style. The world is made up of all four (Assertives, Animateds, Attentives, and Accurates), and I for one am grateful to be me. How about we at least try to accept others for who they are? We’re approaching the holiday season. What better time to extend grace to one another.
