How are you doing today? Are you enjoying the nice rain? We are supposed to get more tonight, so stay safe! The entire weekend was like that, so Mom and Dad decided to do an inside adventure. They left me and Mowgli at home, and off to Chandler’s Scheels they went.
Mom has been to the Scheels in Johnstown, Colorado, and she was excited as she thought Dad would love all-things outdoor. Scheels in Chandler is located at 3199 W. Chandler Boulevard, and is about an hour from North Phoenix, straight off the 101 south. They are open seven days a week. Check their website for hours and any special events: https://www.scheels.com/store?StoreID=026&utm_medium=yext&utm_source=google
The first thing they saw went they entered was a poop bag dispenser and a sign saying dogs were allowed. Dang. I could have gone! Now we know, although I don’t think we’ll be going back.
Mom was disappointed big time. The Scheels in Northern Colorado is truly about outdoor activity, but the Chandler store is just an overpriced clothing store. It looked like a mini mall attached to the bigger mall, and it was filled with city people who probably never go outside.
Like the other location, it has some cool features like an aquarium with fish, a Ferris Wheel that you can actually ride, and two bowling lanes. We can see how a family could enjoy a couple hours here with their kids.
Mom and Dad’s favorite part was the wildlife display. Everything was realistic and impressive. They do have a huge gun collection, but everything is overpriced. Mom compared things like hiking socks, and they were way higher than even Dick’s Sporting Goods, and they are outrageous.
The store is two levels and does sell just about everything from clothing to jewelry to candy, shoes, and some camping equipment. What they have is just expensive. We can’t imagine the amount of money they have in inventory. Eeesh! People were buying things, though, so I guess some people like paying more.
The store prides themselves on being employee owned, and their service is good. Someone is never too far away if you have a question. However, they need to get a reality check on pricing. Oh well, at least Mom and Dad had a enjoyable lunch beforehand. They used a gift card from Christmas and enjoyed soup and salad at Olive Garden, which is right across the street from Scheels.
If you live near Chandler, you may want to visit just to check it out. Knowing in advance they are expensive may help manage expectations. It is all about city activities, though. Of course, Chandler is a city. They are probably customizing stores to their location.
All that to say, I didn’t miss anything. I was content taking a nap in the cool, cloudy weather in the comfort of my home. The storms should be bringing snow up north, so we will venture out again next weekend. Have a great week!
