In turbulent times, we can often get consumed by the tornadic activity of negative thought that leaves us feeling helpless and defeated. It’s the work of the devil as he wants to keep us paralyzed with fear. We begin to buy into his lie that “We are just one person, and we can’t change any of this.”
Well, one tree can start a forest fire, and one smile can start a friendship. One hand can lift a soul, and one laugh can conquer gloom. One touch can show you care, and one life can make a difference! That’s the truth, and we need to hold tight to it no matter how hard the wind blows.
You may not believe this, but I was very shy as a young child. I would get cotton mouth at the thought of saying hello to anyone. I would panic and sweat and usually never got around to saying a word. When I entered high school, I remember feeling so very alone as I was on the outside looking in. Everyone seemed to be living their life, and mine was passing me by.
I recall taking a deep breath one day and deciding right then and there that I didn’t want to be on the outside looking in. I didn’t want to miss out on my own life. I knew firsthand how short life can be as I lost my dad on my 13th birthday.
I got a planner and began changing my life one decision at a time, choosing to participate and engage. Again, those who know me today would say, “Of course you got a planner!” I joined clubs, became an A student, made friends, volunteered, and got into basketball, tennis, and volleyball. I chose to be happy, despite the tragedy of my dad’s death and our financial struggles.
Often times, I think we let our circumstances dictate our future, or we get overwhelmed by the sheer weight of it all. When a horrible life event hits, we forget to recover our life and get stuck in recovery! Let that sink in: we forget to recover our life and get stuck in recovery.
It can sneak up on us, and before we know it, we have forgotten the power of one: one word, one person, one act, one event, one decision…one vote. Don’t fall into the trap of denial and despair! Know that you have all you need within to make a difference here and now. You just need to decide because the One is waiting. He will help you weather the storm and will protect you from the assaulting waves. Then He wants you to be the one sharing His good news of hope, love and everlasting life.
I have an inspirational talk I give called The Power of One and would love to bring it to your organization, club or company. I believe we all need to be reminded we matter, and we can make a difference by being the one to someone today. Give me a call to get it on the calendar.
